Robbery at residence of bank official in Bihar's East Champaran leaves cops red-faced
The ransacked house of vice-chairman of Motihari Central Cooperative Bank
MOTIHARI: A gang of around 25 dacoits barged into the house of Arun Kumar Singh, vice-chairman of Motihari Central Cooperative Bank, at Sripur village under the Ghorasahan police station area in East Champaran district on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday and looted Rs 7 lakh in cash and jewellery and valuables worth Rs 20 lakh.
The criminals held all family members, including women and children, hostage at gunpoint while committing the crime.
Arun and his son Abhijit Kumar Singh, state spokesperson of Jan Adhikar Party (Loktantrik), were severely beaten up by the criminals when they resisted the loot. Abhijit, who had contested assembly election from Dhaka seat unsuccessfully in 2020, was also stabbed by the criminals.
Arun told this newspaper that the criminals entered his house after cutting the main gate and iron grill by gas cutter at midnight and hurled several bombs to scare the villagers. "Some dacoits entered my room and assaulted me. Abhijit, his wife and children were also assaulted by the criminals. The criminals then stabbed Abhijit. All of us were held hostage at gunpoint," Arun said.
Arun alleged that though he made several calls to SHO of Ghorasahan police station and SDPO of Dhaka at 2am, they reached his home in the morning. Dhaka SDPO Rajesh Kumar, however, said police reached Sripur village when bombs were hurled by dacoits.
