THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Karamana police on Saturday arrested five persons with 72 grams of MDMA packaged in small plastic pouches from a tourist home at Killipalam. About 27 grams of MDMA was seized from the room in which they were staying and later 45 grams was seized during a raid conducted at the houses of the accused.
The accused had bought the MDMA from Bengaluru for sale and all of them are addicted to the drug as well, police said. The arrested persons have been identified by police as Suhaid Imthiyas of Thiruvallam, Hassan, a native of Manacaud, Sakthi Prasad and Shyju of Nemom, and
Vishnu from Balaramapuram.
Police said the accused was at the tourist home to package the MDMA in smaller packets for sale. They have been in the drug trade for the last couple of years, and there are other similar cases registered against them at several police stations.
They were staying at the tourist home for the past two days, and the local residents informed the police after they found some of the accused in an intoxicated state near the place. They were arrested in a raid conducted by police who also seized the contraband.
The accused have been remanded after producing before a court on charges under sections 22(c), 29, 27 (b) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act-1985. Police have intensified investigation to identify others involved in the drug mafia.
