BHUBANESWAR: Police on Sunday arrested four youths for attacking three students of BJB Autonomous College in Bhubaneswar.
The youths had attacked the students after having an altercation over playing cricket on the college playground on Saturday.
The police also seized a knife, stumps and a motorcycle from the possession of the accused. While three youths belong to Mahisakhala in the city, one is a native of Kedarpalli. Two of them have criminal antecedents, said the police sources.
SN Muduli, Zone-4 ACP, said they have forwarded these accused to the court after arresting them from their locality.
“We had registered a case against the youths on the basis of the FIR of the students,” he added.
Gulam Moinuddin Khan, principal of BJB Autonomous College, said they will conduct a meeting on Monday and discuss the incident. They will also take decisions on the entry of outsiders into the campus and playground, he added.
On Saturday, a group of students staying in BR Ambedkar hostel of the college had requested the local youths to allow them to play cricket on the pitch of the playground. The outsiders asked them to wait. Both the groups had arguments over the delay. Excluding a few local boys, most of the non-students went out of the ground. When the students were busy playing cricket, a group of around 20 youths entered the playground and attacked the BJB College students.
While one of the students received head injury, the hands of the other two were injured. The outsiders had even chased the students till the latter entered the hostel.
