Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated with religious fervour, traditional gaiety in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety in the district on Saturday.
Thousands of Muslims gathered for a mass prayer held at Karumbukadai in Coimbatore city.
Across the district, Muslims congregated in more than 300 mosques and grounds, and offered special prayers. Sharing of food and extending assistance to the poor and downtrodden marked the celebration.
More than 10,000 people participated in the mass prayer at Edgah mosque grounds in Mettupalayam. Traffic was suspended for a short while on Ooty – Coimbatore Road to facilitate a mass prayer.
Scores of people thronged biryani outlets as hotels had arranged special combos for the celebration.
