3,130 candidates in fray for Karnataka polls

BENGALURU: A day after completing the scrutiny of nominations filed by several candidates, the Election Commission on Saturday announced that 3,130 candidates are in the fray.
Of the 3,130 valid nominations, 2,890 have been filed by male candidates and 239 by women. A transgender candidate is also in the fray, according to a release by the chief electoral officer, Karnataka.
While the BJP has fielded candidates in all 224 seats, the opposition Congress has fielded candidates in 223 constituencies followed by JD(S) in 211 seats. Besides, Aam Aadmi Party has fielded 212 candidates. Interestingly, 1,379 independent candidates are in the fray, the panel said.
