Foundation laid for girls’ gurukul in Surat

SURAT: On Saturday, the foundation stone of a hostel and school exclusively for girl students was laid by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in the city. The Shree Swaminarayan Kanya Gurukul (SSKG) with hostel facilities will accommodate 2,500 girl students. The project is being developed at the cost of Rs 125 crore at Vadod of Olpad taluka. Land and fund has been donated by a businessmen from the city and the project is developed by Swaminarayan Gurukul, Ved Road.
“The concept behind SSKG is to provide the best educational environment for girls. We have been doing academic work for boys for many years and now planned a similar setup for girls as well,” said an SSKG official. Once it is ready, the SSKG will be managed by a team of women officials — from administrator to staff — and will open school facilities from Class I to V and hostel facilities with food from Class VI to XII. In the first phase, 600 girls will be accommodated, which will gradually rise to 2,500.
The project is being developed in around 60,000 sq yard land with a total of six lakh sq ft of construction. In the first phase 3.5 lakh sq ft construction will be completed by 2024 and academic activity will start soon after.
