‘Corporal punishment’: NHRC seeks report from state
Ranchi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sent a notice to the state school education and literacy department seeking a detailed report in connection with an incident of alleged corporal punishment in a government middle school in Ramgarh’s Gola block in October last year. The commission has asked the department to furnish the report by May 27.
In October last year, a Class VI student of Rajkiya Utkramit Madhya Vidhyalaya (state-upgraded middle school) in Saragdih under Barlanga police station suffered serious injuries in his right eye after he was allegedly beaten up by a para-teacher for not doing his homework.
After the matter came to light, the district administration ordered a probe into the incident. Koderma-based human rights activist Onkar Vishwakarma also approached the NHRC.
