Saket court shooting: Lawyer hired PSO to stall woman’s ‘attack’
Radha has taken a loan of Rs 25 lakh
NEW DELHI: The investigation into gun firing on the Saket courts complex on Friday has established that suspended lawyer Kameshwar Singh, who shot at the woman, had hired a personal security officer 15 days ago because he perceived a threat from the woman. Singh was remanded in police custody for a day by a court on Saturday.
Police disclosed on Saturday that Singh claimed to have borrowed his PSO’s pistol saying the woman, M Radha, could attack him during the court hearing on Friday. “We are verifying whether the suspended lawyer really faced a threat or he is only telling a lie,” a police officer said.
The PSO, Ajay, received bullet injuries on his right hand when Singh opened fire on Radha. "Ajay told us he was an ex-serviceman and worked earlier as an assistant security officer at a south Delhi hospital. We are verifying both facts," the police officer said.
Ajay was in a dispute with his wife and met singh for legal advice. Singh asked him to work as his PSO because he had a licensed revolver. “The PSO accompanied Singh dressed in a lawyer’s attire of a white shirt and black pants. He always carried his licensed firearm,” the officer said. the cops are also probing whether singh instructed ajay to dress like a lawyer.
Another police officer said that most people thought a clerical assistant of a lawyer had been injured when Ajay suffered gunshot wounds because of his attire. Singh had arrived at the court premises in a scooter and the PSO entered the complex carrying the gun past Gate No. 2 meant for lawyers. Allegedly, Ajay was not properly frisked because he was dressed like an advocate.
Cops are yet to recover the pistol used in the shooting. During interrogation, Singh gave varying accounts of what happened to the firearm. "He told us that he threw the pistol near the canteen. Then, he later said he had got rid of the weapon on the way to Faridabad," the police officer said.
Another officer revealed Singh planned to flee to Bihar after shooting the woman. "Soon after committing the crime, he went to a client's house in Faridabad, from where he was arrested," the officer said.
Ravindra Singh Yadav, special commissioner of police (Crime), said that a monetary dispute was behind the shooting incident. "Singh had given Radha a Rs 25 lakh loan at an exorbitant monthly interest. But she did not pay a single penny to him," said Yadav. A Crime Branch team headed by inspector Rakesh Sharma arrested Singh for the shooting.
