Mumbai: Two minors drown at Mahim sea

MUMBAI: Two minors drowned in the Mahim sea in separate instances on Sunday. One of the youngsters has been identified as Rehan Mandal, 12, while the other is unknown.
Mandal had gone to the Mahim sea with a group of relatives. "As Saturday was Eid and Sunday was a holiday, a large number of visitors came to the Mahim dargah over the weekend. Many of them ventured to the sea behind the dargah thereafter," a police officer said.
Mandal had entered the sea water. The Mumbai Fire Brigade received a call about the drowning around 5.10pm. A search was carried out and his body was fished out subsequently.
Local police and lifeguards then started to remove other visitors from the sea water.
In a separate incident around 7pm, the body of another minor was found in the sea at a different location-- near Hinduja Hospital. Police said its not clear who this youngster is and from where did he enter the sea. He is believed to be around 15-16 years.
Both bodies were sent for an autopsy. Mahim Police have recorded two accidental death entries.
