‘Groom leaders who can create ventures’
Ranchi: Terming the culture of start-ups and entrepreneurship as an encouraging trend, governor C P Radhakrishnan on Saturday said premiere business schools in the country have a duty to not only churn out business leaders but also entrepreneurs who can dream and create the next big business ventures.
Radhakrishnan was speaking at the 11th convocation of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ranchi. As many as 352 students, including one for PhD, two for executive PhD, 254 for MBA, 72 for MBA HRM and 23 for executive MBA were given certificates and degrees at the event.
“Institutes need to groom students who can create business ventures, which can provide employment to others while emerging as globally renowned entrepreneurs,” the governor said. He said the Union government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi understands the importance of entrepreneurs and start-ups and has taken every possible step to encourage them.
The governor said the management should equip the students with life skills to adapt and change for facing new challenges emerging in the future. He further stressed that businesses must come up with new ideas to remain ahead of competitors or else they would lose ground. “As business managers, the IIM graduates should keep in mind the environment while taking decisions and everyone has to work for ensuring that India’s growth story reaches the rural population,” Radhakrishnan added.
He also praised the IIM for conducting multi-disciplinary research for the public at large, promoting local culture through the Birsa Munda Centre for Tribal Affairs and encouraging public policies through the ‘Atal Bihari Vajpayee Centre on Leadership, Policy and Governance’.
