
Pune News Live Updates: The annual Pune pride march was held in the city on Sunday with members of the LGBT community, civil society, NGOs and others, participating. Sunday’s march was organised by the MIST Foundation.
The march assumes significance at a time when a five-judge Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, is hearing a batch of petitions seeking legal recognition for same-sex marriage.
In other news, Baramati MP Supriya Sule visited the site of the incident where at least 4 people died and 22 were injured after a bus was hit by a truck on Mumbai-Bangalore Highway and spoke to NHAI officials and policemen. She said that in the last few months – since the accident that happened in November 2022 – a lot work has been done on this accident-prone stretch by various government agencies including NHAI, police and civic officials. Based on the findings of the probe into the latest accident, further corrective measures will be taken, Sule said.
Officials from Bharti Vidyapeeth police station said the accident took place around 2 am near Swaminarayan Temple at Narhe Ambegaon, after suspected brake failure of the truck. The bus was taking passengers from Kolhapur to Dombivli in Mumbai.

A court in Maharashtra's Pune district has convicted 11 people in the Cosmos Bank cyber fraud case, in which hackers siphoned off more than Rs 94 crore through a malware attack over a period of two days in 2018, police said on Sunday.
At least 18 persons were arrested from different parts of the country in connection with the fraud that was executed over a period of two days in August 2018.
As per the case details, hackers stole information of rhe Cosmos Bank's VISA and RuPay card customers through a malware, attacked the SWIFT system (a vast messaging network banks used by financial institutions) and siphoned off more than Rs 94 crore on August 11 and 13, 2018.
The hackers had attacked the banks' ATM switch server and withdrawn Rs 78 crore from various ATMs in 28 countries and another Rs 2.5 crore was taken out within India. In another attack on August 13, the hackers again fraudulently transferred Rs 13.92 crore to a Hong Kong-based bank using the proxy SWIFT system.

A day after NCP leader Ajit Pawar said he was ready to stake claim to the chief minister’s post instead of waiting for the 2024 Assembly elections, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena said his remark highlighted the fact that Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has been asked to pack his bags by the BJP. Responding to Pawar’s comment, Congress — the third constituent of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) — said if Pawar has the numbers on his side, he should go ahead and become the chief minister.
“What Ajit Pawar said has a loud and clear message to Eknath Shinde and his camp. Shinde has been told to pack his bags by the BJP. Four-year-old Athira and her mother Nisha, 36, were excited about their trip to Mumbai’s Dombivli from Kolhapur. With summer vacations having started, both were on their way to visit Nisha’s mother.
On Saturday night, the two waved goodbye to Nisha’s husband Pramod Bhaskar before setting off. Former corporator from Kolhapur Niyaz Khan, a friend of the family, said, “At around 4.30 am, I got a call from a friend about a girl Athira who had survived an accident on the Pune-Bengaluru highway. The girl said her father’s name was Pramod and lived in Shastri Nagar in Kolhapur.”

Baramati MP Supriya Sule under whose constituency the accident spot fall, visited the site of the incident and spoke to NHAI officials and policemen.



"Prima facie, it appears that the accident happened due a brake failure suffered by the truck. It has led to this unfrotunate incicent that has injured 22 and killed four persons. I am thankful to the traffic police who worked beyond their duty to rush the injured to the hospital and also contributied to the rescue," said Sule. Sule said, that since the last big accident several changes have been made on the road such as putting additional rumbler streeps, sign boards, lights, and cameras etc.
"We have been following this issue literally on day to day basis. Since the last accident, a lot has changed. Still, after the investigation report of this incident is availabke, we will sit down and decide on future course of action. If need be, I will discuss this issue with (Ministe of Highways and Road Transport) Niitin Gadkari and see what we can do to further improve the situation," said Sule.
The Satara to Pune lane of the Mumbai-Bangalore highway have been now been cleared. Rescue operations began shortly after the accident took place.

“The driver of the truck has claimed that the brakes of his vehicle had failed causing the accident. This claim will be examined. Vehicle inspectors from Regional Transport Office (RTO) will examine the truck and submit a report," said an officer from Bharti Vidyapeeth police station.
The traffic flow on the Satara to Pune lane of the Mumbai-Bangalore highway, which was stopped earlier for clearing the road, has now been resumed.
Supriya Sule, a Member of Parliament from the Baramati constituency will be visiting the accident site at 9 am.
In the first accident, at 1.30 am, a truck that had halted following an engine failure, was hit by another truck from behind.
In the second accident at 2 am, a truck hit a passenger bus following a suspected brake failure of the truck, killing four persons and injuring 22.
In the third accident at 3.30 am, a brake failure of the truck carrying chemical powder hit at least three parked vehicles, causing damages to them. The driver of the truck was injured in accident.
Traffic police officials said that the traffic has been stopped for clearing the highway, and will be allowed to move at 8.30 am.
The truck was carrying gunny bags of sugar that had spilt on the road and are now being cleared. Fire brigade officials said that fuel and oils from the truck and bus had also spilt on the road. Soil and sand were used to soak it and clear the road.
A damaged truck and bus took off the road.
At least four persons were killed and 22 others were injured after a private passenger bus on its way to Mumbai was hit by a truck from behind on the Mumbai-Bangalore Highway at Jambhulwadi in Pune in the early hours of Sunday.
Officials said that the deceased include two men and two women. Of the 22 injured, 19 were bus passengers, while three were in the truck’s cabin. After the impact, the truck turned on its side. Read More
