GUWAHATI: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Friday forwarded the Assam Pradesh Youth Congress president Angkita Dutta’s reply to the show-cause notice over violating party discipline to the central leadership in Delhi.
The APCC slapped a show-cause notice on Angkita asking her as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against her for making internal matters of the party public. It was issued after Angkita lodged an FIR with the police on Thursday against Indian Youth Congress president Srinivas BV accusing him of harassing her for the past six months following the latter’s legal notice to the former demanding an apology for “defaming him by bringing allegations”.
An APCC source said Angkita’s reply has been forwarded to the central leadership with the comment of the state president and the All India Congress Committee will take a decision based on the reply. The source said the APCC cannot take any decision on Angkita as she is a member of the AICC.
Meanwhile, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, while criticising the Congress on Friday, said the way the APCC is handling the situation is unfortunate and such things should be solved on the party floor.
He said, “The APCC needs to solve the matter soon. It is their internal matter and I don’t want to comment on it. If they fail to solve it within the party, then the police will take action as per law since an FIR has also been lodged by Angkita. The National Commission of Women has already written to the DGP.”
Angkita, daughter of former state president of the Congress Anjan Dutta, stated in the FIR that Srinivas had mentally tortured her and had made sexist remarks. She said in the police complaint that he used slangs and threatened her with dire consequences if she continued to complain against him before the senior officer-bearers.
