Badrinath highway was closed due to boulders near the Birhi village in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, police said on Saturday morning. "Badrinath Highway closed due to boulders near Birhi," Chamoli Police tweeted sharing a picture of the same. Meanwhile, the Badrinath Dham in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district was covered in a thick blanket of snow on Thursday, amid fresh snowfall" in the region starting late on Wednesday night. The Badrinath Dham, part of the 'Char Dham' pilgrimage yatra, located in Garhwal hill tracks in the Chamoli district along the banks of the Alaknanda River was seen enveloped in snow on Thursday morning. Notably, the Char Dham yatra begins on April 22 on the auspicious day of Akshay Tritiya. The doors of Kedarnath Dham will open on April 25 and Gangotri Dham on April 22.

However, following protests and requests from priests and other stakeholders, the daily limits have been removed while the registration process for devotees, both online and offline, will continue, officials said. Speaking about the development, chief minister (CM) Pushkar Singh Dhami said, "Keeping in view the convenience of devotees, the decision to limit the number of visitors to each dham per day has been withdrawn.
Uttarakhand government withdraws daily cap on Char Dham pilgrims
The Uttarakhand government has withdrawn its decision of imposing a daily limit on the number of pilgrims visiting the Char Dham shrines a day before the commencement of the annual yatra to the four shrines of Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. The registration process, which began on February 21, saw over 15 lakh devotees signing up for the pilgrimage until April 20. The government had earlier imposed daily limits of 19,000 visitors for Badrinath, 16,000 for Kedarnath, 9,000 for Gangotri, and 5,500 for Yamunotri.
