The tourism sector of Spain in 2023 is hoped to post record revenue for the second year consecutively in spite of high inflation, on Thursday, the Exceltur tourism association said the same.
It forecasted that earnings from the tourism sector will reach 172.2 billion euros after a very good start of the year and the optimistic hopes of the sector.
This would be an 8.3 percent raise over the record number of 159 billion euros listed in 2022. This is a 9.4 percent rise over 2019, before the pandemic damaged the sector.
This central scenario is based on the continuance of powerful demand in domestic tourism and the consolidation of the revival in the Europe from which majority of international tourists come from, the group said in a declaration.
Also, the tourism industry of Spain should benefit in 2023 from visitor rise from Asia and North America as travel restrictions related to pandemic have been raised, it mentioned.
The world’s second most popular tourist destination after France, Spain in 2022 welcomed almost 71.6 million visitors from abroad, mainly from France, Britain, and Germany.
As this increased from the 31.1 million who came in 2021, it was still below the record 83.7 million visitors from foreign countries who arrived in 2019 before COVID-19 hit the sector.
