SURAT: A 60-year-old
sports trainer riding a cycle suffered a fracture after he was hit by a moped from behind on Dumas road on Thursday morning. Based on a plaint, Dumas police booked Tausif Malpara for allegedly causing injury and Rs 3 lakh worth of damage to the bicycle.
In the incident Naresh Chaurushi, father of triathlon champion Pooja, was riding his bicycle worth Rs 5.5 lakh and assisting an athlete during practice, when Malpara came on his moped from the rear side and crashed into the cycle. Chaurushi suffered a fracture in the elbow besides bruises on his body.
“My father was wearing a helmet and did not suffer any serious injury. But the bicycle got damaged badly,” said Pooja, who is assisted by Chaurushi in training athletes.
In past, serious accidents of persons on bicycle rides, walks or running on Dumas road have been reported.
