The Telangana and Andhra Pradesh franchise Telugu Talons announced its entry into the Premier Handball League (PHL) on Saturday. The team, owned by Abhishek Reddy Kankanala will compete in the inaugural edition of the PHL.
The Talons will be looking to put together a robust team at the PHL auction slated to be held at the Taj Lands End on Sunday in Mumbai.
Each team will select a squad consisting of 11 Indian players and three international players.
By investing in the Telugu Talons team, Abhishek Reddy aims to promote the sport and provide a platform for talented athletes to showcase their skills on a larger stage, while also supporting the development of the sports ecosystem in India. Abhishek is dedicated to expanding his diverse sports portfolio and contributing to the growth of the handball community, particularly in India.
“I am thrilled to venture into the world of handball and support these incredible athletes,” said Abhishek.
“Handball is an exciting and engaging sport, and I believe it has immense potential to grow in popularity, especially in India. Shubhankar misses cut in Japan in ISPS HANDA Championship in Japan
India’s Shubhankar Sharma scored an improved one-under 69 in the second round but still missed the cut at the ISPS HANDA Championship here on Saturday.
Sharma, who is coming back after a month-long lay-off, had two bogeys on the front nine of the course and three birdies on the back nine. Yet his first round two-over 72 meant he was one-over for two rounds and missed the cut, which fell at 2-under.
Sharma has now missed four cuts in his last four starts.
Aaron Cockerill heads into the fourth and final round of the 2023 ISPS Handa Championship with a one-shot lead after making a lightning-quick start on Saturday.

Lahiri 17th at Adelaide Liv event, Gooch leads at 10-under

India’s Anirban Lahiri shot three-under 69 to lie tied 17th as American Talor Gooch fired a flawless 10-under 62 to take the opening-round lead at the LIV Golf tournament.
Lahiri had five birdies against two bogeys in the event.
Gooch carded 10 birdies at the Grange Golf Club on Friday to be four shots clear of Englishman Richard Bland and South Africa’s Dean Burmester, who were in a tie for second place.
