City markets flooded with last minute Eid shoppers
Kanpur: As soon as the announcement of moon sighting was made on Friday, the city markets witnessed huge footfall with last-minute Eid-ul-Fitr shoppers who made a beeline to the various shops dealing in various items from designer clothes, caps and various edibles used in preparing mouth-watering delicacies.
The items which were in high demand were chikan kurta-pyjamas, skull caps, attar, nagra shoes, burqas and prayer mats.
The restlessness of young girls accompanying their mothers was understandable. Nikhat Khan at the Parade market, who was trying to match the colour of bangle with her heavy sea-blue chikankari suit said, "I have purchased a heavy chikankari churidar-suit. Now I am matching it with the same colour bangle and earrings."
Anas, a shopkeeper at the Meston Road market, said: “Chikankari suits, Anarkali suits, Patiala, besides designer heavy fabric suits in shades of peacock green, peach, purple, pink and white are in huge demand this Eid.”Similarly, men were also not far behind the women and were seen doing their shopping with great enthusiasm. This year we are also selling short kurtas as a section of youngsters prefer this style." The most important among male attire on Eid are skull caps. A group of youngsters buying skull caps to match their outfits was witnessed at a skull cap shop in Beconganj area.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the Muslims from all over the city, offered Alvida namaz (prayers of the last Friday of the holy month of Ramzan) which passed off peacefully.
