H-E-B is celebrating Earth Day by giving out free, reusable tote bags to customers shopping in person on Saturday.

The Texas-based supermarket chain annually holds an Earth Day giveaway to spread awareness on environment initiatives. This year, the company is promoting sustainability in Texas through its "Our Texas, Our Future" campaign to conserve and protect the state's resources.

"We’re working to reduce the amount of food and packaging we use, while simultaneously preventing unnecessary waste from ending up in landfills or our water streams," H-E-B said, adding that, among other efforts, the company also set up plastic bag drop-off bins outside stores, partnered with nonprofit How2Recycle to add recycling instruction labels to thousands of H-E-B-brand products, and installed solar panels on top of stores and other facilities.

So far, H-E-B has given out three million reusable bags for Earth Day. This year, there will be 250,000 bags given away at all H-E-B brand locations.

Starting Saturday at 10 a.m., customers who visit any H-E-B brand store (H-E-B, Central Market, Joe V’s, Favor and Mi Tienda) can get their complimentary bag. Additional bags will be available for purchase for an extra $1.50 per bag.
