5 die as truck falls into 30-ft gorge in Mizoram

AIZAWL: Five persons, all from the Chakma community, were killed as the pickup truck they were travelling in ran off the road and fell into a gorge at West Phaileng village in Mamit district on the Mizoram-Tripura-Bangladesh border around 11am on Friday.
The vehicle bound for Marpara village was carrying 24 people, which rolled down a 30-metre deep gorge, the police said.
"They were on their way back from Rajiv Nagar where they had gone to attend celebration of Biju, a Chakma festival," the police added.
The victims include four women - Bonomota, Ayushi Chakma, Siki Chakma, Kajola.
The man has been identified as Dev Kumar Chakma.
