Mangaluru: Sangh Parivar leader and Sri Narayana Guru Vichara Vedike state president Sathyajith Surathkal said that the police protection given to him has been withdrawn, due to a conspiracy by BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel and others.
Sathyajith told reporters here on Friday, that he was provided with gunmen by the government, following threats by anti-national elements since 2006. However, the police protection was withdrawn from March 5, he said.
“Officials in the police department have asked me to avail gunmen by making a payment. Since I cannot afford the payment, the government should continue the protection as the threat still exists,” he added.
Threat reviewed: Top copCity police commissioner Kuldeep Kumar R Jain said earlier security was being provided to five persons in Mangaluru city. “One person already returned the security cover. The security threat of the remaining four was reviewed, and a decision was taken to withdraw the gunman provided to them. Providing a gunman or security cover is based on the current security threat. Reviewing it is regular process, and is done periodically. The current review was completed in March, and a decision was taken after that,” he added.
