Coimbatore: Two guest workers including a woman were injured in leopard attacks at a tea estate in Valparai in Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR), in two separate incidents within a span of two days. Both incidents took place at the Sirukundra tea estate owned by Woodbriar at Valparai.

Jharkhand was working in field number 35. Around 12pm on Thursday a leopard attacked the woman. She managed to escape but suffered minor injuries. She has been admitted to the government hospital at Valparai for treatment. Valparai forest range officer G Venkatesh met the woman and handed over 2,000 as immediate relief.
In the second incident, Anil Oran, 27, from Jharkhand was attacked by a leopard in the same field on Friday morning. He suffered fractures on his right leg and was admitted to the government hospital in Valparai. The forest department has handed over 4000 as immediate relief.
Forest officials have formed a special team to monitor the movement of the leopard. The tea estate’s management has been advised to suspend work for two days. The forest department has also installed a few camera traps at the estate to monitor the carnivore’s movements.
