The city police jurisdiction is all set to expand with chief minister M K Stalin announcing merger of Thudiyalur, Kavundampalayam and Vadavalli police stations with the city police in Friday’s assembly session.
COIMBATORE: The city police jurisdiction is all set to expand with chief minister M K Stalin announcing merger of Thudiyalur, Kavundampalayam and Vadavalli police stations with the city police in Friday’s assembly session.
The merger will enable better policing, the CM said.
City police commissioner V Balakrishnan had sent a proposal to bring Vadavalli and Thudiyalur police stations under the city police limits.
On October 26, 2022, the CM announced formation of new police stations - Karumbukadai, Kavundampalayam and Sundarapuram in Coimbatore city and sanctioned additional manpower of 93 police personnel for the new stations. The city police have identified buildings for the new stations.
While the Kavundampalayam area is under Coimbatore rural police limits, the new police station at Kavundampalayam will be merged with the city police. After the home department issues an order, the city police will take over jurisdictions of Thudiyalur, Kavundampalayam and Vadavalli police stations limits.
Stalin also announced merger of Mangalam police station in Tirupur rural police limits with Tirupur city police. Police stations at Attayampatti and Karipatti in Salem rural police limits will be merged with the Salem city police. The CM has announced 1.33 crore to construct a kennel for Salem armed reserve police at Annathanapatti.
