MANGALURU: Congress candidate from Moodbidri Mithun Rai said MLA and BJP candidate Umanath Kotian had written to the then industries minister Jagadish Shettar to acquire fertile land in Karnire, Athikaribettu, Balkunje, Kollur and Ulipady villages in the constituency.
Rai released copies of two letters purportedly written by Kotian to the then minister Shettar at a press conference here on Friday. “In his letter to the then minister dated May 14, 2020, the MLA had said there are nearly 800-900 acres of land suitable for industries in villages of Moodbidri constituency. He also told the minister that villagers were ready to hand over the land and requested the government to acquire the land for the development of industries in the region. In another letter written on the same day, the MLA had urged the government acquire 100 acres of land in Bajpe,” Rai said.
MLA Kotian has denied Rai’s allegations.
