Murder suspect goes from juvenile center to jail on 17th birthday
On Friday, the day he turned 17, capital murder suspect Ricardo Felix Sapata was returned to the Wichita County Jail from juvenile detention to stand trial as an adult.
He is accused of shooting and killing 15-year-old Andrew Gable-Triche in Wichita Falls on June 1, 2022, at the intersection of 23rd and Grace Streets.
Court documents claim Gable-Triche was shot during a drug deal that went bad. Sapata faces capital charges because Gable-Triche was killed during the commission of a robbery.
Also accused in the case was Isaiah Rey Sims, who was 18 and considered an adult. He remains in jail awaiting disposition of his case.
Although he was a juvenile at the time of the shooting, 78th District Court Judge Meredith Kennedy ruled Sapata will be tried as an adult. He has a pre-trial conference set for April 28.
