Jaipur: Indian junior team is the most successful in the world having won the ICC U-19 Cricket Cup for a record five times.
The Indian colts defeated England by 4 wickets in West Indies early last year to clinch the historic fifth title and extended their domination.
Having set the high standards, the Board of Control for Cricket In India (
BCCI) wants to retain their supremacy in the world. The Indian cricket board has already started their planning for the next World Cup which will be held in Sri Lanka from January 14 to February 5, 2024.
With just over eight months to go for the next U-19 World Cup, the BCCI will conduct the national camps at six venues from April 24 to May 18. Jaipur will be among the six centres which will conduct the 25-day long camp.
The BCCI has given the responsibility to Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) to hold one of the six camps from Monday. It was confirmed by RCA vice-president Shakti Singh Rathore while talking exclusively to TOI here on Thursday.
“We are happy that the BCCI has given us the task to conduct the camp. Jaipur has very good facilities and that was the main reason the Indian cricket board selected us. Twenty-five talented players from across the country will attend the national coaching camp in Jaipur,” said Rathore.
The former Rajasthan cricketer Rathore said RCA Cricket Academy is gearing up to hold the camp successfully. The other camp venues are Rajkot, Nadiad, Dehradun, Kanpur and Pondicherry.
“We have 24 wickets at the RCA and excellent lodging and boarding arrangements. Besides 25 players, there will be nine-member coaching staff to supervise the camp. Former Indian Test wicketkeeper-batsman Ajay Ratra will be the chief coach of the camp, while ex-Rajasthan Ranji captain Pankaj Singh will be the bowling coach,” said Rathore.
He also informed that four Rajasthan players have also been selected to attend the national camp. Mukul Choudhary and Rahul Choudhary will be part of the camp at Pondicherry, while Himanshu Nehra and Sallauddin will attend the camp at Nadiad and Rajkot, respectively.
After the completion of the camp at the respective centres, six teams will be selected which will play a Challenger Trophy later this year.
