Thiruvananthapuram: With little respite from scorching summer, power consumption continues to cross 100mu per day. The consumption level clocked 102.99mu on Wednesday, whereas it was 102.95mu on Tuesday.
The peak load demand reached 5,024 MW on Tuesday, leaving the entire distribution and transmission network under stress. However, it came down to 4,019MW on Wednesday. The optimum capacity of the lines and transformers within the state for bringing power from outside is 3,410MW.
The maximum power the state would be able to generate in-house would come to only around 1,600 to 1,700 mu. Hence, a further increase in power demand, especially during peak hours, would leave KSEB with no option other than power restrictions to manage the situation. TNN
