A pilot of an Air India flight, operating from Dubai to Delhi violated DGCA safety norms by inviting friend inside the cockpit. As per DGCA, the incident occurred on 27 February on flight AI 915.

India's aviation safety regulator DGCA said it has taken the complaint very seriously and has launched an investigation.

As per DGCA statement, “A pilot of an Air India flight, operating from Dubai to Delhi, allowed a female friend in the cockpit, on February 27, violating DGCA safety norms. Probe being conducted" Air India too on Friday issued a statement saying that they have "zero tolerance" in aspects related to the safety of passengers.

As per HindustanTimes report, a cabin crew member made a complaint to the regulator on the incident. In the complaint as reviewed by Hindustan Times, the cabin crew member alleged that the captain wanted the crew to make sure the cockpit appeared welcoming for his female friend. He also asked the crew to get her some pillows from the bunk for her comfort, HT has reported. He also asked the crew member to serve his female friend drinks and snacks, however, the crew denied saying she was not ‘comfortable serving alcohol in the cockpit.’ The complaint alleged that the female friend spent almost an hour in the cockpit.

The captain also asked the crew if there was any vacant seat in the business class as he wanted his friend an upgrade.

In the complaint, it was also alleged that the pilots boarded the flight along with the passengers and did not even meet the crew before the boarding.

The crew member in her complaint said as reported by HT, “He (The captain) said the cockpit should appear welcoming, warm and comfortable, as though he was preparing his living room for a lady friend. Also, to take her drinks and snacks order and serve her in the cockpit. I told him, ‘Captain, I am not comfortable serving alcohol in the cockpit’. This seems to have upset him a lot and his entire attitude changed from that moment onwards. He became very snappy and rude and from there on started treating me like a servant working exclusively for him."
