Judicial panel visits crime spot, questions policemen in Allahabad

PRAYAGRAJ: The three-member judicial commission, set up by the state government to probe the sensational killing of gangster brothers Atiq Ahmed and Khalid Azim alias Ashraf, on Thursday reached Colvin Hospital and inspected the spot where the incident had taken place on April 15.
The commission, headed by retired judge A K Tripathi and having retired IPS officer Subesh Kumar Singh and retired judge Brijesh Kumar Soni as members - interacted with the police officials during their over an hour-long visit. The commission members also talked to the injured policeman and inspected the site of the incident.
The entire area was cordoned off during their visit. ADG Bhanu Bhaskar, police commissioner Ramit Sharma and joint commissioner of police Akash Kulhari were present when the commission members visited the crime scene.
The commission members also questioned senior police officials of Prayagraj Commissionerate on the number of the policemen present at the site when the incident took place. They also inquired about the sequence of events from the injured policeman.
The members inquired about the location and direction from where the shooters arrived at the spot. They also interacted with the police officials who were on duty on the fateful night. Atiq and his younger brother Ashraf were gunned down by three assailants when the duo was being taken by police to Colvin hospital for health check-up on Saturday.
