3 businesses, 5 vehicles struck by gunfire at Rockford shopping center, 2 injured
Two people were injured Thursday afternoon when gunfire broke out at a shopping center on the city's southeast side.
According to Rockford police, gunfire was exchanged by two individuals at 3 p.m. at Alpine Village shopping center at Alpine Road and Harrison Avenue, and both individuals fled before police arrived.
Three businesses and five vehicles were struck by bullets. One person, who was inside a business at the time of the shooting, suffered a graze wound to his leg, police said. Another person, a woman who was sitting inside her vehicle when the shooting took place, sustained a minor injury when a bullet hit the vehicle's windshield.
The Rockford Police Department is investigating the shooting.
