EVEN THOUGH the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation had advised residents earlier this month to use water judiciously, the PCMC has seen a sudden jump in complaints related to water shortage from different areas of the industrial city. In the past one-and-a-half months, the civic administration has received nearly 600 complaints.
Civic officials said complaints are coming from all parts of the city and are often related to either low pressure water or getting inadequate quota of water.
However, the civic administration said they have been able to resolve most of the complaints while other complaints are being looked into.
“Most of the complaints have been resolved. We will soon take care of the complaints in areas where people are not getting their adequate quota of water,” said PCMC Joint City Engineer Shrikant Savane.
In March, 401 complaints were received and this month 182 complaints were received till April 17.
The PCMC has been supplying water every alternate day since November 25, 2019. The decision was taken during the tenure of Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar and since then, it has been continued. PCMC lifts 510 MLD water from Pavana dam. The water is provided on alternate day as per a scheduled programme in different parts of the city. Pimpri-Chinchwad has a population between 27 and 30 lakh.
In anticipation of the rising population, the PCMC has been able to get additional 267 MLD water from Andra and Bhama Askhed dams which are located outside PCMC and in rural areas of Pune district. In the first phase, Pimpri-Chinchwad will get 100 MLD water from Andhra dam for which PCMC has set up a water treatment plant in Chikhli area. The work of the plant has been completed and it will be inaugurated by month end.
“We will soon get additional 100 MLD water which will ease the water complaints to some extent. In the second phase, Pimpri-Chinchwad will get 267 MLD water which will further ease the water problem,” officials said. The PCMC has set up a helpline for water related complaints: 7722060999.
