YS Viveka murder case: Don't arrest Kadapa MP Avinash Reddy till April 24, SC tells CBI
YS Avinash Reddy.
HYDERABAD: Describing the interim stay issued by Telangana high court on the arrest of Kadapa MP YS Avinash Reddy in the murder case pertaining to Andhra Pradesh former minister YS Vivekananda Reddy as atrocious and unacceptable, the Supreme Court on Friday stayed the order and all the proceedings before the high court.
However, it asked the CBI not to arrest Avinash till April 24. The Supreme Court would hear this matter at 9:30am on that day. The apex court issued notice to Avinash and asked him to explain his case by that time.
The high court, it can be recalled, heard the anticipatory bail plea of Avinash and reserved its order to April 25 and directed CBI not to arrest the MP till then.
Aggrieved by this order, Viveka's daughter Sunitha approached the Supreme Court challenging the relief given to Avinash.
The bench of chief justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha expressed its disapproval over the HC order. What kind of order is this? We stay this order completely, the CJI said.
Avinash‘s counsel Ranjith Kumar said that they did not recieve a copy of the plea filed by Sunitha. Nor did we get a notice so far, he said urging the court to restrain the CBI otherwise he would be arrested. He is currently in CBI office and they may arrest him there itself, he said. The bench then said that it is staying the HC order but asked the CBI not to arrest Avinash till April 24.
The CBI had already arrested YS Bhaskar Reddy, the father of MP Avinash for conspiring to kill Viveka. Avinash is facing allegations of sheltering the accused on one hand and destroying the evidence at the crime scene on the other.
