Man charged with attempted murder, assault in Gunbarrel stabbing
Apr. 20—A Gunbarrel man accused of stabbing his roommate over the weekend has been charged with attempted murder and assault.
Christopher Sherrill, 43, was formally charged Thursday with attempted second-degree murder, second-degree assault, menacing and two counts of third-degree assault according to charging documents.
Sherrill has also been identified as Chris Sherill in some court documents.
According to a release, Sherrill got into an argument with his roommate in their home in the 7400 block of Spyglass Court at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
The victim said Sherrill attacked him with a knife, stabbing him three times, according to an affidavit. The victim went to Boulder Community Health's Foothills Hospital for medical care, and law enforcement was notified by the hospital of the stabbing.
According to an affidavit, the injuries were serious but not deemed life-threatening.
Following the stabbing, officials said Sherrill went to a home in Weld County where a witness said Sherrill admitted to the stabbing and said he only stopped because the victim was "begging for his life."
Sherrill did say the victim stabbed him back, and the witness said they helped treat a stab wound to Sherrill's leg.
Sherrill returned to the Gunbarrel address at 2:15 a.m. Monday. Deputies responded at 5:55 a.m. after they were unable to reach Sherrill and were able to arrest him inside the home at 8:32 a.m. without incident.
He was taken to a hospital for treatment and then transferred to the Boulder County Jail, where he remains in custody on $100,000 bond. His booking photo was not yet available.
Sherrill is set for a preliminary hearing on May 11.
According to the affidavit, Sherrill has a criminal history that includes out of state arrests for trespassing, battery, injury be vehicle, aggravated assault, menacing, harassment and numerous probation violations.
