New Kanpur city plan gets a relook
Kanpur: Divisional commissioner Raj Shekhar, who is also the chairman of the Kanpur Development Authority, on Thursday inspected the ambitious ‘New Kanpur City’ plan.
He was accompanied by KDA vice chairman Arvind Singh and other officials to review efforts being made to set the plan in motion. The divisional commissioner asked the Arvind Singh to expedite the work and complete infrastructure required for the launch of its first phase by August 15. He also asked the vice chairman to conduct regular onsite inspection and take appropriate action against any unauthorised construction.
New Kanpur City Scheme was launched in 1997 with the objective of providing residential facilities to the growing population but the scheme did not materialise.
Later, KDA decided to revive the scheme by marking private land owned by the authority and acquiring it. The matter was raised in the investorss summit-2023 and participants supported it and demanded to execute it at the earliest.
During the visit and review meeting on Thursday, Raj Shekhar was told that the scheme was spread over an area of 153 hectare from Singhpur Kalyanpur Marg to Mainavali Marg, which is targeted to be concretised in the next five years. The main objective is to provide modern residential facilities to general public along with a state-of-the-art convention centre, hotels, educational institutions, facilities for multipurpose hospitals, etc within the city.
A total of 73.3539 hectares of land has been identified by the committee formed for this scheme in five villages, of which, 57.1747 hectares of land was proposed to be developed under the first phase. Of this, 37.448 hectares was acquired by the authority and 3.593 hectares of village society (total 40.021 hectares of land).
Another 16.1937 hectares of land is marked for private cultivators.The officials said in view of need to provide commercial as well as residential and community facilities and services for planned development of more than 40 hectares of Gram Sabha land acquired by the authority in the first phase, the draft Master Plan 2031 has been prepared.
