Days after The Indian Express reported that authorities of Blue Bells School in Pune had described as “unfair” the institution’s name being used by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in its statement about two floors of a building being sealed, Pune police clarified on Friday that the school had no connection with the agency’s action.

The police said that its officers had contacted NIA authorities in Delhi regarding the action. “After discussion with the NIA authorities, it is being clarified that no action was taken against the Blue Bells School. NIA is not conducting any investigation against this school,” the Pune city police said in a statement.

“(The) name of the building is K Z Center. But it is locally known as the Blue Bells School building. The 4th and 5th floors of this building are sealed by the NIA as they were being used by the banned PFI,” the statement said.

On April 17, while describing its action against the radical Popular Front of India (PFI), the NIA had said in a statement: “The 4th and 5th floors of the Blue Bell School Building were used by PFI to plan and prepare for carrying out terrorist activities with the aim of endangering the unity, integrity and security of India.”

On April 18, The Indian Express visited the school in the Kondhwa Khurd area of the city and met its principal, Reshma Fazal Sheikh, who said “the floors sealed are not ours”; that “we are here on rent, too” — and it’s “unfair” for the NIA to name her school.

She said the building was officially known as KZ Knowledge Centre, where the school occupied the second and third floors.
