Thane: A retired police officer has been cheated by three persons of Rs 7 lakh who lured him him into buying a land in Mankoli area of Bhiwandi. A case has been registered against all the three accused.
The complainant, who was then attached to Narpoli police station, alleged that the accused once approached and told him that there is a four Guntha plot in the Mankoli area of Bhiwandi under his name. He told the victim that the plot is in a residential zone and thus it will yield high profits in the next few years. The complainant told one of his relatives about this and both went to the location wherein the accused showed him 7/12 extract on his name and asked for Rs 7 lakh. The accused claimed that he was in urgent need, and hence, would take cash. He said the rest of the legal formalities will be done within a few days. The complainant paid him the entire amount. However, later the accused started avoiding the retired cop and prolonged further legal process. When the victim carried out the verification of the land on his own, he found that the land which was shown to him falls under the industrial zone and is not usable. The cop asked for his money back but the accused gave him cheques which were dishonoured. The cop then registered a cheating case with the Naupada police station who launched the investigation into the matter.
