HYDERABAD: Burglars gained entry into the flat of a TV artiste at Srinagar Colony and stole 129 tola gold and diamond jewellery worth over 70 lakh on Wednesday.
Based on the complaint of the victim, police registered a burglary case and launched a probe. On April 17 afternoon, Sumitra, wife of Vinjamuri Shivaram, went to Delhi. Before leaving for the national capital, Sumitra locked her flat on the fifth floor and handed over the keys to her sister-in-law, Buvaneshwari, who lives in another flat in the same apartment complex.
At 11.30am on April 18, Bhuvaneswari noticed that Sumitra's flat's main door latch was broken. Bhuvaneswari informed her husband
Vijay Kumar Pampana and the couple videographed the flat. Vijay also informed his sister, Sumitra, that her house was burgled. On her advice, he lodged a complaint with the Panjagutta police.
Sumitra returned from Delhi immediately and, after checking bedroom almirah, realised that all her gold and diamond ornaments were missing.
On April 19, she informed the Panjagutta police that gold and diamond ornaments weighing 129 tolas, including her nephew Dheeraj's gold and silver ornaments, were stolen by the burglars.
Based on the complaint, the Panjagutta police registered a burglary case under Sections 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Clues Team visited the spot and collected fingerprints from the crime scene. Police said that the offenders broke into the flat by forcibly removing the main door latch. They broke the almirah locker and stole the valuables, Panjagutta inspector C Harichandra Reddy said.
Police verified closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage near the apartment of the victim and they reportedly zeroed in on the offender. Efforts were on to recover the property.
