PATNA: The health department on Thursday confirmed death of two persons due to Covid even as the state recorded 139 new cases in the last 24 hours.
According to the official figures, a seven-month-old child and a 72-year-old man died due to Covid on Friday. Meanwhile, the 139 new cases have taken the state's Covid caseload to 731.
The seven-year-old child was admitted to AIIMS-Patna on Tuesday night and died on Wednesday. Hospital's Covid-19 nodal incharge Dr Sanjeev Kumar said the child was from Jehanabad. "He was initially admitted to a private hospital in Jehanabad due to respiratory problems. However, the child was shifted to AIIMS-P after he tested positive for Covid," Dr Kumar added.
He said of the 100 samples tested at the AIIMS-P laboratory on Wednesday, 17 were found positive. Most patients were from Paliganj and Bihta in Patna district.
The 72-year-old Covid victim was a resident of Agamkuan in Patna. He died at Nalanda Medical College and Hospital.
As per the health department, of 139 new cases, Patna alone accounted for 57, followed by Saharsa (14), Bhagalpur (11), Kaimur (8), Gaya (7), Munger (5), Purnia (5), Saran (5), Khagaria (4), Banka (4), West Champaran (2), Kishanganj (2), Gopalganj (2), Madhubani (2) and Rohtas (2). Six other districts reported one new case each.
These positive cases were registered against 52,510 samples tested in the state in the last 24 hours. The state's Covid positivity rate stood at 0.25% on Thursday.
Of the 731 active patients in the state, nine were undergoing treatment at different hospitals, including three at AIIMS-P.
