PATNA: With auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya just round the corner, gold traders are ramping up their strategies to bulk up demand by giving attractive offers and discounts to the customers. Many residents have given prior orders at jewellery shops and booked gold and silver ornaments ahead of the festive to avoid the last-minute rush.
On Thursday evening, most of the jewellery outlets remained packed as residents were making purchases and booking the design to collect on Akshaya Tritiya. According to belief, people buy jewellery on this day as it is considered auspicious and believed to bring prosperity and wealth. The occasion, dedicated to the goddess of wealth, Lakshmi, is observed on the third lunar day (Shukla Paksha) of the Hindu month of Vaisakha. The day will be observed on April 22.
Umesh Tekriwal, owner of a branded jewellery showroom at Frazer Road, said for Akshaya Tritiya, they are giving a discount of 20% on gold making charges and 20% discount on diamond full value. "This time, the business is booming when compared to last two previous years. Every day, the booking of 1 to 1.5 kg of gold is being made by the customers at our showroom. The gold jewellery is more in demand as marriage season is about to begin," he told TOI.
Sachin Gupta, proprietor of a jewellery showroom at Boring Road, said, "On an average, we are getting 30-35 bookings. We are offering 35% discount on the making charges of gold jewellery and 25% discount on the diamond value till the festival," he said adding that most of the customers are purchasing antique collection and light weight jewellery, mostly from Turkish collection.
"Many customers are selecting the products beforehand, so that they just may collect their items on the day without hassle. We are giving discounts on gold making and diamond value to lure customers," said Rishu Kumar, owner a jewellery outlet at Bari Path.
Roshni Agarwal, a resident of Patel Nagar said light weight jewellery is more trendy and defines the status. Sharing the similar views, Namita Keshri of Boring Canal Road said she bought a petal-shaped gold necklace with matching earrings.
