GURGAON: Starting 6am, teams involving 550 cops searched 19 locations to confiscate property documents, and seize cash and other belongings of alleged criminals and their families on Wednesday.
Two men accused in cases of murder, assault and abduction were also found at their relatives' houses, and arrested during the search.
The objective of the operation, police said on Wednesday, was to weaken the nexus of criminals - even the jailed ones - in the city.
DCP (crime) Vijay Pratap Singh and DCP (West) Bhupendra Singh led the operation that involved seven ACPs, 11 teams of the crime branch and nine SHOs of Gurgaon police.
Cops said the searches took six hours to complete. They were carried out in Khod, Jat Shahpur, Basunda, Goriyawas, Khandevla, Tirpari, Bohra Khurd, Tajnagar, Shakti Park in Sector-10, Nakhrola and Basai.
The teams were able to confiscate property documents, financial documents, Rs 2.97 lakh in cash, 67 mobile phones, two digital tablets, 13 SIM cards, and seven registry certificates, 10 pre-signed blank cheques and two currency counting machines. They also seized a Scorpio, a Fortuner, a tractor, three motorcycles and a scooter.
"We went to the hideouts of several criminals who are either at large or jailed. Despite being in jail, criminals don't lose their power. We needed to cripple them financially to curb this. This search operation was aimed at confiscating everything they could use to their benefit, be it their money or support from their relatives and associates," said Preet Pal Sangwan, ACP (crime).
The teams also booked some accused for possessing arms and weapons. Among them was Sumit from Farrukhnagar, a resident of Tirpari Sandeep and a woman in Sector 10 who had a magazine and knives in their possession.
They were booked under relevant sections of the Arms Act.
Two others - Naveen, wanted for charges such as murder, kidnapping, assault for ransom and robbery, and Hemant, accused of robbery and assault - were found hiding at their relatives' houses in the city. They were subsequently arrested on Wednesday.
