HYDERABAD: A 24-year-old auto driver was convicted in a minor girl's rape case and sentenced to 20-year rigorous imprisonment by a local court on Wednesday.
After the trial, XII additional metropolitan sessions judge, Hyderabad, T Anitha convicted the accused and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment for 20 years. He was also directed to pay 2,500 fine.
The survivor used to work at a garments store and the accused, who is from Langar Houz, befriended her through sweet talk. According to police, the accused became intimate with the girl and he had sexually exploited her multiple times. In December 2021, the girl's family members became suspicious of her behaviour. When the girl's mother confronted her, she told her about the sexual exploitation of the accused.
Based on the complaint of the mother, police had registered a rape case. "We filed a chargesheet within four months. The girl's statement and the statements of the witnesses played a key role in securing the conviction," police said. tnn
