PUNE: Four boys, all booked in several criminal cases, have fled from the premises of the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Udyog Kendra’s children’s home for boys in Yerawada.
They scaled the high boundary wall using a wooden ladder and broke open a window grill with stones. The escape took place around 12.45pm on Tuesday, during a melee.
An officer of the observation home, Sumant Jadhav (41), lodged a complaint in this regard with the Yerawada police on Tuesday evening. Meanwhile, the police have registered a case of rioting, mischief and escaping custody against nine boys residing in the home.
Sub inspector Vishal Patil of the Yerawada police said, “The boys were fighting and arguing with each other for the last four days and once again, picked a fight with each other on Tuesday. After abusing each other, they started hurling sticks and stones at each other.”
He added, “This led to a commotion and the four escapees used the distraction to their advantage. All four boys were earlier involved in serious body offences.”
