Liberian student held for raping Zimbabwe woman
Ludhiana: Police arrested a Liberian student for allegedly raping a 22-year-old woman from Zimbabwe at his rented accommodation in Khanna. The accused is a civil engineering student at a local college and lived in the same area as that of the complainant.
In her complaint submitted through in-charge international cell of the university, the woman claimed that on April 17 night, she was sitting outside when the accused invited her to his room where his brothers were drinking alcohol. She added that they offered her the same, but she refused. As she was feeling hungry, the accused asked her to go to his room where she could cook something for herself. She said she didn’t see any problem in cooking at his place as she took him as a friend.
The student said when they reached his place, she started cooking chicken in the kitchen. But he requested her to come as he wanted to discuss something with her. She added that the accused told her that he loves her, but she told him that she didn’t have any feeling for him as she was in a relationship with someone else.
The accused got upset hearing this and started kissing her after overpowering her. She said the accused sexually assaulted her. Getting a chance, she ran away and reached her home. The accused tried to enter her room, but she closed the door. She later informed the university authorities about the matter who informed the police. Police later booked the accused under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC. Khanna SSP Amneet Koundal said the matter was brought to their notice around evening and the accused was arrested within hours.
