CHIKKAMAGALURU: The Chikkamagaluru district administration on Wednesday held a rally to create awareness of the importance of voting. Many senior officials and advocates took part in the rally organised in association with the zilla panchayat, Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Committee, bar association and District Government Employees Association.
Deputy commissioner KN Ramesh flagged off the rally at Chikkamagaluru taluk office. The rally passed through MG Road and concluded at Azad Park.
Zilla panchayat chief executive officer G Prabhu, who is also SVEEP nodal officer, said that the unique event received good response from the public.
The awareness rally was organised under the theme 'Judiciary and executive for good legislature'. "The two pillars - Judiciary and Executive -joined hands to impress citizens to ensure their participation in voting," he said.
"The authorities have been conducting a series of awareness drives to improve the polling percentage across the district," he added.
Western Range IGP Chandragupta, superintendent of police Uma Prashanth, among others, were present. The officials put their signatures on the placards they were carrying as part of the campaign.
In Tarikere, the taluk SVEEP committee took out a rally to create voter awareness. The members of various women self-help groups took out a candlelight parade. Asha workers, taluk panchayat staff, NRLM staff and others took part in the rally.
