Class IX Tamil textbook to have topic on Karunanidhi’s life and contributions

CHENNAI: The Tamil textbook for Class IX students will have a topic on the life and the contributions of late chief minister M Karunanidhi, school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi informed the Tamil Nadu assembly on Thursday.
Replying to a query on education, the minister said the life of Karunanidhi would be included in the ninth standard textbook from the coming academic year (2023-24).
"To honour Kalaignar (Karunanidhi) who started his public life at 14 years and took steps to obtain classical language status for Tamil at the age of 86, his life will be made part of the Class IX Tamil book from the coming academic year," said Anbil Mahesh.
The next academic year begins in June. The ruling DMK will launch year-long celebrations of Karunanidhi's birth centenary on June 3.
