LUCKNOW: Bodies of two sisters, aged 17 and 18 years, were found hanging from the ceiling of a room in their house in Chhapia area of Gonda on Wednesday morning.
Police said that asphyxia due to hanging was the cause of death and added that further investigations were on to confirm if they had committed suicide.
Superintendent of police, Gonda, Akash Tomar said that after getting information, he reached the spot with police force. A dog squad and forensic team were also pressed into service to examine the crime scene.
"The incident came to light when the mother of the two girls got up to drink water around 5.30 am. She called her daughters but got no response. She reached their room and found them hanging from the ceiling," a police officer said.
The father of the deceased girls informed the police that the family had dinner at 10.30 pm on Tuesday after which he and his wife went to sleep in their room while his two daughters went to another room.
"Preliminary investigation has suggested that the girls were keeping ill due to which they might have ended their lives. However, we are looking into all other angles," the SP said.
