NOIDA: Ninety-four students from Noida have won scholarships under National Means Cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) this year. The scholarship exam—conducted for students of Class 8 in government high schools —was held in January and the results were declared on Wednesday.
Officials said for the first time, a large number of students from Noida sat for the exam and won the scholarship. Of the 96 seats allocated for the district this year, only two, reserved for Scheduled Tribe (ST) students, are still empty.
Last year, only one student had won when 77 scholarships were available. Officials attributed the success to awareness drives and mock tests across schools.
This year, 984 students appeared for the exam. Amit Kumar from Upper Primary School, Bahlolpur, Bisrakh, ranked first, Karan and Prince from Upper Primary School, Yakubpur, came in second, while Lavish from Jewar took third place. The qualified students will get a scholarship of Rs 48,000 over 4 years—Rs 1,000 per month—from classes 9 to 12.
