Killian McGinley followed in the footsteps of his father Paul and mother Allison when he captured an NCAA Division 1 title in the US on Monday.
McGinley (21), whose mother was also a professional golfer, shot rounds of 66 and 70 for Fairfield University to win the ABARTA Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational at Northampton Country Club in Easton, Pennsylvania.
A senior at Fairfield University in Connecticut, McGinley finished four shots clear of the field on eight-under-par. He will graduate next month with a degree in economics and with an extra year of DIvision 1 eligibility thanks to COVID-19, he will head of the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) in August to begin his post graduate degree in economics.
Killian’s father Paul, a three-time Ryder Cup player, and his mother Allison, a former Ladies European Tour player, both won Division 1 titles in US college golf.
Royal Dublin’s Max Kennedy also claimed his first US collegiate win when he closed with a level par 72 to win The Aggie Invitational in Texas.
The University of Louisville Junior (21) racked up his fifth top-10 finish in a row at the Traditions Golf Course, where he opened with rounds of 71 and 66 to lead by a shot heading into the final round and went on to clinch a hard-fought, one-shot win.
