Conman dupes woman of Rs 98,000 in Pune

PUNE: The Loni Kalbhor police are investigating a case of cheating against an online fraudster who duped a woman landscape designer (28) to the tune of Rs98,000 on March 15 this year.
According to the police, the fraudster called the victim and informed her that he works in the Indian Army. The fraudster then claimed that he wanted her to do the designing of his plot where his bungalow is coming up. He promised to transfer Rs5,000 as an advance.
The police said, “Later, he claimed army rules did not allow him to transfer money and asked her to click on a payment link on her UPI application following which she will get the money. He sent her a link and the woman, who clicked on it. She then lost Rs 98,000.”
