Thai tourism operators urging soundways concerning 300-baht tourism fee

Tourism operators are asking for flawlessproceduresconcerning the 300-baht tourism charge after the minister oftourism and sports said thattax collection will be postponed from June to September due toproblemsconcerning its application.

PhiphatRatchakitprakarn, Thailand Tourism and Sports Minister said that money collection from entrancesfrom abroad by air need to be deferredsince the airlines could not implement a discriminatingmethodbetween foreign travelers, Thais and emigrants. The airlines maintained that all passengers need to be treated equally for guidelines.

BhummikittiRuktaengam, who is the consultative chairman of the Phuket Tourist Association, said that if the collection is deferred for air tourists, it should also be delayed for those coming in by land and sea for uniformity. In place oftrusting on airlines, there should be a central organization exclusivelyaccountable for money collection and controllingentrances by air, sea and land, said Ruktaengam.
