Congress should take steps for caste-based census in state: Ajsu-P
Ranchi: The All Jharkhand Students' Union party (Ajsu-P) chief Sudesh Mahto on Wednesday demanded that the Congress, which is part of the coalition government in Jharkhand, should take initiative for caste-based census in the state.
Ajsu-P’s statement has come following Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for caste-based census.
Addressing the mediapersons at his party’s state office, Mahto said, “ Though belated, the Congress has raised voice for caste-based census. The party’s unit in Jharkhand should take immediate step for the said exercise in the state.”
He said that Ajsu-P had written a letter to chief minister Hemant Soren on the issue and also raised the demand on various platforms.
On the ongoing students’ agitation, Mahto said that instead of suppressing the youth’s voice, the state government should have utilised its energy for framing right policies to provide employment to them.
The party also held a meeting of its assembly constituency in-charges and decided to hold state-level ‘Samajik Nyay’ (social justice) march in Ranchi on April 30.
